Rory Wants Ulster To Be Europe's Best

Rory BestUlster hooker, Rory Best, has backed his side to go on and cement their place as Europe’s top side by winning this season’s Heineken Cup, following the club’s stunning quarter-final victory against Munster.

The Ulstermen travelled to Thomond Park without many believing they could come away with the victory, only to surprise the odds – and those indulging in some rugby betting - and clinch a thrilling 22-16 win and a place in the final four.

Ireland international, Best, has admitted that the club targeted the semi-finals before the competition started, although he has now insisted the focus is now on going on claiming the Heineken Cup title.

The experienced hooker believes the success against Munster has given the whole side confidence that they could achieve something special this year. "We want to be the best team in Europe. To do that, you have to start off by being the best team in Ireland.

"Leinster are regarded as the best team in Europe so we knew we had to get ahead of Munster. This is one step but it really means nothing if we can't follow it up. We talk about trying to get better each year. To get better this year, we had to make the semis as a minimum and we're there now."

The remaining teams left in the tournament will have certainly sat up and taken notice of just how well Ulster performed against Munster, especially in a sensational first-half display that saw them take a 19-0 lead before Ronan O’Gara clawed the hosts back into the tie.

A battling defensive display was called upon in the second half, with the whole side producing near-miracles to keep the Munster attack at bay.

Like Ulster, the side’s semi-final opponents, Edinburgh, have surprised many on their way to the last four. Neither would have realistically thought they had much of a chance of reaching the final of this year’s tournament. The two teams continue to prove interesting gambits for visitors to Betfair.com.
